Overview of the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) with TIC Visas

The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) is a key immigration pathway designed for individuals with job offers in Ontario or those who wish to start a business in the province. This program helps employers find skilled workers and supports potential immigrants in obtaining Canadian permanent residence.

Ontario PNP Categories

The OINP accepts applications under the following migration categories:
  • Human Capital Category: Targets individuals with the skills and qualifications needed by Ontario.
  • Employer Job Offer Category: For candidates with a job offer from an Ontario employer.
  • Business Category: For individuals looking to invest in or start a business in Ontario.

How to Apply for Ontario PNP Nomination

Applying for an Ontario PNP nomination and permanent residence involves two distinct processes:

  • Ontario PNP Nomination: The Ontario Government evaluates your provincial nomination application. If accepted, you will receive a nomination that allows you to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
  • Permanent Residence Application: After receiving a provincial nomination, you must apply for permanent residence with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Key Points for a Successful Application:

  • Application Process: The provincial nomination process can be complex, and errors may lead to rejection. Ensure all details are accurate and complete to avoid delays.
  • Processing Time: The time required for processing varies based on factors like application volume, case complexity, and documentation completeness. Prepare your profile in advance to minimize delays.
  • Stream-Specific Requirements: Each stream under the Ontario PNP has unique processes and requirements. Verify your eligibility for the specific stream before applying.

Ontario PNP Nomination Requirements

  • Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the OINP stream you wish to apply for. The Ontario immigration department sets specific point criteria for each stream.

  • Prepare Documentation: Gather and prepare all necessary documents for your application. A well-organized document kit can prevent last-minute issues and delays in processing.

  • Apply for Nomination: Create an Express Entry profile and, if you have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 400 or higher, you may apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario. Successful nominees receive 600 additional CRS points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving a Notification of Interest (NOI) in the next OINP draw.

  • Apply for Permanent Residence: Once invited to apply, submit your application for permanent residence through Express Entry. You will have 60 days to submit your PR application.

  • Move to Ontario: After receiving your PR visa, prepare for your move to Ontario. Ensure you bring all relevant documents, including passports, identification, fitness and character certificates.
